Just attended a fascinating show in Delray Beach titled "Reimagined" at the Cornell Museum of Art. To be honest, I could have spent an entire day absorbing all the wonderful expresssions of these 10 artists. Each had their own way of using found objects, unique materials or unusual collections to create visual masterpieces.
In particular, I was fascinated by the portraits of Jason Mecier, a California artist with no formal training. I commented to my friend that I lost my desire to create art in high school when my teacher was explaining all the necessary steps to create an oil painting. "First you need to know how to stretch a canvas, then you prepare the canvas with gesso, then you mix the oils with linseed oil, blah, blah, blah...
Where was the creativity in that, I thought? This is the type of object pointillism that excites me!
In a way, this relates to how overall branding can be viewed. It is really a collection and combination of a variety of elements, colors, processes, collateral, marketing platforms and imagery. Branding IS the big picture of your identity.
